Windermere is a small town set amongst the pristine Butler Chain of Lakes.  The town is located in Southwest Orange County, approximately 14 mile from downtown Orlando and 6 miles north of the Walt Disney World Resort. The town was established in 1889 and chartered in 1925.  The quaint downtown district has maintained its’ historic charm with endearing shops and cafes that take you back to a more simple time.




Windermere is centrally located and offers easy access to shopping, restaurants and entertainment.  There are older homes in the downtown area that are surrounded by exclusive gated communities where you will find well-appointed townhomes, golf course homes and single family homes offering some of the most sought after properties in the Central Florida area.  Luxurious waterfront estate homes grace the Butler Chain of Lakes’ shorelines.

Windermere is part of the Orange County Public School system and has one Elementary School and one Middle School within its’ borders.  Windermere is also home to Windermere Preparatory School, a private PreKindergarten through 12th grade college prep school.




Windermere has a Town Manager/City Council form of government.  Police services are provided by the Windermere Police Department.  Fire rescue and emergency medical services are provided by Orange County.


Fun Facts


Versailles.jpgWindermere is home to the infamous Versailles Palace; the largest modern day palace under construction in America.  Versailles is situated on a 10+ acre peninsula with 1250 feet of pristine shoreline on Lake Butler of the famed Butler Chain of Lakes.  It consists of 13 bedrooms, 21.2 bathrooms a 20 car garage and 3 pools, with 90,000 square feet all under one roof!
